Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center

Tours at Flaming Gorge Dam

There are no guided tours at the dam anymore. There is a self-guided walking tour that will lead visitors out to a fantastic overlook where you can see all the way to the bottom of the dam and the Green River. This is a wonderful opportunity!

No one is allowed inside the dam and no one is allowed to walk across the dam along the walkway. There are a couple of great vehicle pull-out locations on the Dutch John side of the dam where you can get some great views, also!

Towering 502 feet above the Green River. and completed in 1964, the Flaming Gorge Dam was built to provide water storage and hydroelectric power. The Dam is managed by the US Bureau of Reclamation and is the major hydroelectric dam along the Green River system.

The visitor center here is a great place to start any tour of Flaming Gorge Country. A large 3D model, on-going films and interpretive displays give one a good overview of the myriad of recreational opportunities that await. Perched at the edge of the dam and along the water, an easy stroll rewards visitors with great scenic views.  Due to Covid restrictions guided tours of the dam will not be offered, but a portion of the walkway will allow visitors to view the riverside of the dam.

From I-80 in Rock Springs Wyoming, travel about 70 miles south on US Hwy 191. From Vernal Utah, travel north about 45 miles on US Hwy 191. From Manila, travel 28 miles east on Hwy 44 and turn north onto US Hwy 191 for about 7 miles.
